Peabody Housing Association are planning to build hundreds of new affordable homes on UCL and Middlesex University’s former medical teaching campus.
Peabody, a housing company already owning 27,000 homes in London and have more than 70,000 residents, hope to develop the Highgate area of Archway by building 450 new affordable homes to encourage people to move to the area.

“We are about to enter into pre-application discussions with Peabody, although there are no formal arrangements made to date”, Victoria Geoghegan, head of Islington Council’s Development Management and Building Control, said.
Peabody bought the site from the University College of London and the Middlesex University last June after the medical centre was declared surplus to requirements. They are planning to spend £150m on this project.
The Universities said the sale of the land was a rare opportunity to get involved in, right at the centre of a community and to near good transport links.
Peabody hopes its plans will result in an improved community and commercial spaces for the residents as they are also planning to build shops and restaurants on the 3.5 acre land.

Mark Meghezzi, who is currently moving to Archway but not as part of the Peabody Housing Association, said it was the “attraction of other young professionals, decent nightlife and great parks for the summer,” which persuaded him to move to North London, suggesting why Peabody Housing Association chose to buy this land.
