You can tell a lot about someone by their clothes. It is often the first form of communication between two people that helps to understand someone’s personality, and also represents how they want the world to see them.
What do London Met students wear – and why? Four students reveal all…
“I’ll spend more on clothes if it’s fancy dress or if I’m going to an event”
Nancy Wilkinson is 18 and currently studying events management. “I’m wearing a summer dress from Shein, ripped tights that I ripped this morning from Boots, new Vans shoes and an ASOS jumper,” she said.

“Most of the clothes I buy are from Shein and fast fashion, which is quite bad, but I have things from charity shops as well. I’ll spend more on clothes if it’s fancy dress or if I’m going to an event.
“I try to get as much use as possible out of everything I wear. Just to make sure I get my money’s worth!
“I prefer buying my clothes in person rather then online. This means I can try on the size and won’t have to send them back if it’s not right.”
“I keep an eye out for things I fall in love with”
Stephanie Croissiau, 27, is an international student from France, studying first year psychology. What does she like to wear? “I have a white scarf from American Vintage because I love the vibe of this American styling.”

“I have a coat which I bought at a market in Seoul, Korea. I got it for a cheap price, and I am really happy about that, maybe £10 or £15! The trousers are from Toast, an English brand, and I bought the boots also for a great price in London. I think they are from Zara, but I found them in another shop, they were second-hand.
“I find lots of my clothes second-hand. I just keep an eye out for things I fall in love with, it doesn’t matter if its new or not.”
Fashion “gives me confidence”
Joao Pereira, 27, is from Portugal and currently studies banking and finance.

“I’m wearing Zara trousers, ASOS top and the jacket is from TK Maxx, sneakers are from Caterpillar and the scarf is Zara as well.
“I enjoy fashion and like to wear things that are a bit different. It gives me confidence and make me feel good.”
“I don’t think about sustainability much when I buy my clothes”
Felix Rokossa, 20, is from Germany, completing his foundation year for Business Management.

“Most of my outfit is Nike, so I have Air Force 1’s in white, Nike socks, Nike track pants, Nike hoodie. I’m wearing a Nike shirt as well that I got from JD and a Canada Goose jacket.
“The jacket is great; it keeps me warm and is good quality. It’s quite expensive but was a present from my parents.
“For my shoes I buy a lot of second hand because it’s a lot cheaper, with the sustainability side, I don’t think about it much when I buy my clothes.”
