Islington Boxers from the Islington Boxing Club on Glenville Road in Archway won medals at the Hampshire boxing tournament last Saturday after a splendid performance from Boxers Bobby Moore, Harry Betteridge, Connor Daley and Martin Camera.
The Tournament attracted other boxers from London and Hampshire. Islington Boxing Club Manager Reggie Hagland told the Holloway Express: “It was not easy for our boxers to win medals in this tournament which attracted very good boxers.
“All our boxers put up a good performance but Bobby Moore who was the man of the tournament was marvellous to watch and he was definitely the best boxer of the day.” He added that Bobby has just been with the boxing club for a year and his journey so far has been very promising.

A veteran boxer who trains at the Boxing Club, Lottie Shawn, said, “It’s never easy to win medals in boxing especially if you are competing in London and the South West which has a lot of very good upcoming boxers.”
Islington Boxing club is a family run boxing club that has members from the age of five to seventy years old. The club offers a wide range of recreational activities and they conduct sessions every day in the week.
The club is also open to the disabled; a visually impaired man trains there in the week with the assistance of staff. Islington council has just given the club a twenty-year lease to rebuild and renovate the land where the club is based.
Islington Boxing Club can’t help everybody – but there doors are open to everybody.
