Makeup has become such a big part of everyone’s life in the 21st century. Most women around the world – and some men – can’t imagine leaving the house in the morning without a glimpse of makeup!
The history of makeup goes back to the ancient times – the first prototypes were created by Egyptians. They used copper and lead ore. Famous eyeliner wings were invented by Egyptians.
In the 21st century, there are many possibilities and makeup is much more affordable than it used to be hundreds of years ago.

There are many brands to choose from and everyone has their favourites. How do you make a decision on which one to pick from all the available options? Is high street makeup just as good as high end makeup? These are the questions to which we tried to find answers.
“I use more affordable high street make up because it’s cheap and I have way more options,” said Martha Bergonzi, a 32 year-old cafe worker who was shopping for makeup in Boots on Holloway Road.

Even though the quality of high street makeup is not always the finest, people often prefer to get more products which all together are worth the price of one high end makeup product.
We asked people shopping around Holloway Road on their make-up preferences and 65% say that they only buy high street make up and 50% say they wouldn’t spend more that £30.
Student Catherine Handson, 21, said: “I am student so I can’t afford high end make up.”
There are also people who can’t imagine putting on something what isn’t high end makeup on their face. They prefer to invest, choosing quality over quantity. Buying high end makeup products is a lot more than just getting new mascara or lipstick, it’s the whole experience.
Amy James, 24-year-old sales assistant at Benefit thinks: “Investing in high end make up is worth it because it’s better for your skin and lasts longer.” Their “goof proof” eyebrow pencil costs £20.50, while a “bo-ing air brush” concealer goes for £17.50.

Nowadays, many beauty bloggers and makeup artists create looks with one side of the face using high end make up and the other high street to show a proper comparison. Sometimes results are shocking – the difference between the looks are hard to notice. Only 15% of shoppers around Holloway road say they can tell the difference.
Luxury makeup is usually better when it comes to the quality since high end brands are more focused on the craftsmanship and using the best ingredients. While the budget for producing high street makeup is usually less.
Result? Try by yourself and see what works best for you. Maybe a new £3 lipstick from the Superdrug will replace your favourite Chanel lip product?
