24-year-old with mental health issues pleads guilty to attacking worker at clinic

Mr. Adekunle Lanlokun pleaded guilty today to an assault that resulted in grievous bodily harm at the North London Clinic in Edmonton Green.

Lanlokun had been staying there under Section 3 of the Mental Health Act after a number of attacks in the past; he has been kept in the clinic under arrest.

Lanlokun, who is 24 years old, attacked a member of staff in February last year. The staff member, who did not want to be named, suffered a dislocated shoulder.

The prosecution claimed that Lanlokun randomly assaulted the worker, and that this assault was not the first in the 24-year old’s history at the clinic. The prosecution went on to say that it was during the altercation that the shoulder dislocation occurred.

Lanlokun, who required assistance in the dock, pleaded guilty but stated that the dislocation was not his fault. The defendant said that it was when the staff member began to retaliate that he then slipped, which caused the injury.

The Magistrate said that there is not enough evidence to support the defendant’s nor the prosecution’s claims. Therefore, more evidence must be gathered for another hearing on the 29th May.

If Lanlokun does not attend the hearing, he is less likely to receive any leniency on his sentencing even though he pleaded guilty.
