Unless you live under a rock, you should know by now that King Charles III, most recent heir to the throne, recently had his coronation, officially becoming the King of England in front of the whole world.
Whilst the streets of London were rammed with Royal family fans, all hoping to just even get a chance at looking at the new King, it can be easy to assume the whole country and wider London would be feeling the same way.
But this does not appear to be the case.
It is evident there is a huge divide in the country to whether King Charles’s coronation was good idea, and whether UK citizens ever cared in the first place.
This can be seen clearly in a survey conducted by YouGov.co.uk, in which they asked 3,070 members of the British public whether they had any interest in the coronation at all.

Laura Simmons, 22, Holloway Resident and student, said that the coronation was not worth the cost. It is estimated that the whole affair cost upwards of £250 million, much of which was funded by the British taxpayer.
“Personally, I think the King’s Coronation was an absolute joke, to have a £250 million party while families are struggling to afford to eat, and keep a roof over their heads is ridiculous,” she said.
“The only people who are able to celebrate are the ones not affected by the cost-of-living crisis.”

On the other side of the table, Mark Dobbs, 51, a resident of Dorset and plumber, supported the amount spent on the coronation.
“It did cost an awful lot of money at a time where we probably couldn’t really afford it, but I still believe there are more people in this country that like having a royal family.
“I think it brought a lot of pleasure to people in the country,” he said, adding that the widely televised event brought a “feeling of wellbeing to the country”

The DailyMail.co.uk reported that the partner off Irish Prime Minister Leo Varadkar, Matt Barrett, took to his private Instagram and compared the coronation of King Charles to that of Harry Potter.
Barrett was accused of “embarrassing his country” after he shared a number of “highly insulting” social media posts, one including the comparison of “King Charles wearing the St Edwards crown, and Harry Potter wearing the Sorting Hat” as seen in the films.

According to CNN, around 20 million people across the UK tuned into their TV to watch the coronation, not to mention the millions scattered across the country celebrating the occasion.
The Queen’s funeral the year before had significantly more viewers, measuring in around 30 million across the country.
More than 65% of British people had little to no interest in the coronation, according to polls.
It might be too early to say, but could we potentially be looking into a future where the Royal Family are no longer at centre stage for Great Britain?
Only time will tell, as the new King of England, King Charles III takes on his first year as the new monarch.
