People are putting their lives at risk to escape the harsh realities of their countries and cross borders in any way possible. But many are entering the UK only to be told that their banned from doing so by the government.

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak told the Daily Mail Online that whoever enters the UK illegally is not welcome to stay. He also said that they will not be allowed to re-enter the country if they attempt to enter illegally.

“We need a practical alternative to this issue, at the same time we can’t have too many immigrants but also we need a proper solution to be able to give them a better access to this country and a better way for them to seek asylum,” says Jameel St. Hill, 28, works for Marie Curie charity in Highbury and Islington.

“There should be more realistic steps to be taken for people to seek asylum,” he said.

Home Secretary Suella Braverman announced that her plan is compatible with international law, but many have concerns.

But Amnesty International refugee and migrant rights’ director Steve Valdez-Symonds told the BBC that the law was a “shocking new low” for the government. “There is nothing fair, humane or even practical in this plan, and it’s frankly chilling to see ministers trying to remove human rights protections for groups of people whom they’ve chosen to scapegoat for their own failures,” he says.

New legislation

According to Sky News, the government’s new legislation outlines that people entering the UK illegally will be returned to where they were or will be sent to another country like Rwanda. The new law also bans “illegal” immigrants to also seek asylum.

“My opinion is very surfaced but when I hear something like this it’s very sad… it’s like the country doesn’t really welcome them and turns them away…” said Rebecca Yi Xuan, 30, part-time barista and freelance music producer.

A new scheme that was proposed by the UK based British Future think-tank urges the government to introduce a new visa stream for people with a solid asylum claim for processing fairer way to immigrate back to the UK.

The statistics on migrationwatchUK, the figures show that in quarter half of 2021, there were around 5,906 small boats arrived at the UK and only 1.10% were in possession of their passports.

According to the Yahoo news article, Home Secretary, Suella Braverman stated that they will introduce a new law soon which will be safer and legal route for migrants to come into the UK.
