It’s the Year of the Lovers.
There’s a palpable excitement in UK as Covid-19 restrictions are lifted, meaning sweethearts will be able to celebrate this year’s Valentine Day however they want, unlike last year where it took a very cold dimension because of the pandemic.
Following two years of social distancing, lockdowns, and limited opportunities to socialise in person, couples are now thinking about how to make this year’s Valentine’s Day a very memorable one.
“This is a huge sigh of relief. Life has been unbearable since the pandemic, we have been in prison in our own home, and it is time to give my wife the special treat she deserves,” said Chuks Dudley, 39, who works at Screwfix, South Bermondsey.
“I have booked for a special table at 805 restaurants, old Kent Road and two nights at a Premier Inn. We have to maximise this excellent opportunity – who knows, there might be another lockdown on the way.”

A gift for that special someone
Valentine’s Day is one of the most popular holidays in the United Kingdom, and one of the most highly prized Valentine’s Day gift is homemade pastries and sweets. In London, there is a tradition of baking a cake in the shape of a heart, which is given to loved ones.
Valentine’s celebrations are enigmatic, buried in stories and steeped in history. It is a time to exhibit your thoughts, express thanks, and love and Brits are already seizing the moment.
But not everyone enjoying Valentine’s Day is in a relationship; there are lots of possibilities for friends and family members who want to show their love.

Agnes Adrain, 32, works at Shangri-La restaurant, London Bridge. “It’s been great lately with the people. Customers are coming to shop again for Valentines’ cards and flowers. And our business is back again after many months of severe hardship.
“As a matter of fact, my boss laid off three workers because of the pandemic but she’s considering reinstating them now that business is booming again.”

Jackie Williams, 39, a Wetherspoons bar attendant, said: “Lifting of the Covid restrictions is one big news for us. As you can see customers are coming back gradually and we are now stocking up for the Valentine’s Day.
“It was a lockdown Valentine’s last year so punters are going to make the most use of this rare privilege and our tips will be much on that day.”
COVID hospitalisations are still high in London so, to be able to continually enjoy freedom, Brits are advised to take every precaution possible and book their Covid vaccine or booster to protect their loved ones and communities.
