In recent years, awareness of artificial ingredients in beauty products has increased. Because of that, many consumers have turned to organic beauty products, which has led to a huge increase in the global market for natural cosmetics.
According to Statistica, the natural beauty market grew even more thanks to Covid-19 and many people have now started their own businesses at home.
Maddi Curtis, a 29-year-old self-proclaimed eco-warrior from London, started to create skincare products for herself. She realized how easy it is to make natural products.
She now has a brand named Eunoia Naturals and she sells various handmade body scrubs. According to Maddi, the production of scrubs is very simple. She said: “I hand make the scrubs at home by simply mixing all the ingredients together.”

Alternatives to plastic
According to ELLE, the global cosmetics industry produces 120 billion packaging units yearly and almost all of them are made from plastic.
Maddi said: “Companies must be held accountable and find better solutions.”
Her brand uses glass jars with aluminium lids and biodegradable plant-based labels. She feels optimistic about consumer awareness.
She noted an improvement in what people choose to use. She said: “I definitely believe the world is changing and more people are becoming a lot more aware.”
She has faith that people are making changes to help the environment.
Her body scrubs cost £16, and she offers four assortments.
UK homemade skincare
Heavenly Organics Skin Care is a UK homemade skincare brand. It’s owned by Mary-Anne Mills and her husband, Rob, from Ceredigion, Wales. Just like Maddi, Mary-Anne started to create her own products. Before the business, she used to work with young people who had been in care to support them living on their own.
When she became vegan, Mary-Anne wanted to find organic and natural skincare products. Soon she realized that she can easily make her own products that can make a difference in this world.
Heavenly Organics is about “building a kinder, cleaner and more ethical world”. Mary-Anne revealed that the brand motto is: “If you can’t eat it, don’t put it on your skin.”

Essential oils and butter
In general, when it comes to skincare, water is an ingredient that supports bacteria’s growth. Because of that, Mary-Anne uses essential oils and butter instead which are natural preservatives. She said: “We choose not to use water for our products so we can guarantee a two-year shelf life in a natural way.”
When asked if it is worth it to open a homemade store, Mary-Anne said: “Well we did it, and we love it! Our online business sales are continuing to increase and we feel extremely grateful.”
Their products are average, from £3.99 for lip balm to £11.99 for the body scrub.
