London is a thrilling city filled with culture, food, lights, beautiful architecture and an accessibility to about absolutely everything. It is also a city that doesn’t sleep. London is known for a lot of things, but mainly for its nightlife.

Most Londoners know that if you are getting ready for a night out, best be prepared for it to take you to unexpected locations and events. It is rare to not have an interesting anecdote after a night out in London.

University students and workers from London Metropolitan University definitely had some stories to share.

A party that lasted too long

“It wasn’t much of a night out, more of a crazy long weekend. It was a club in Vauxhall that I went to. I went there on Monday and someone told me it was till the Monday after. So I thought why not and I stayed there the entire weekend and had to do the walk of shame on the way home on Monday morning having no sleep for about two days, with people on there way to work,” said student Michael Morrisons.

“I hadn’t showered for two days and everyone on their way to work was smelling good, it was very shameful. I went to bed for two days to recover.”

Wild night out with a solicitor

“My first time at university, going back probably 15 years now I went to go stay at a friend at Leeds. We had a friend that was a bit older, I believe he was a solicitor and he had two kids. But when he used to go out he just went crazy,” recalls another party-goer, whose name we withheld to protect his identity.

“I remember one time, we all got together, ready to go out and he brought all these different kind of drugs. He brought these green pills, some MDMA, some coke, some bubbly. And when I say he went crazy, I mean CRAZY.

“I didn’t really do drugs but … we went out for drinks. We stayed out pretty much all night and I think he decided he wanted to go to a strip club. So we went to a strip club and I think me and a mate stayed there till six, but we were just talking to the bouncers.

“So we would go out for a cigarette and just talk to the bouncers and bartenders. And we ended up having a really good night just talking to random people.”

Explored more than planned

“I have only been in England for five days. But I do have a story from being in Taiwan. One day I went on a hike around 5pm but then I got lost with about five other people,” said new Londoner Zoe Lin.

“We sort of just stayed in the mountain till around 11pm in Taipei, and we almost saw the sunrise but thankfully we found our way out.

“We initially went on this mountain called the Elephant Mountain to watch the sunset but then we got lost. Physically I felt like we were stuck there 10 hours but it was probably just five to six hours.”

Babbling with a bush

“I went to a birthday party. I came out of a club and was going to a friend’s house. I was very drunk and decided to have a conversation with a bush,” said Chris Armagon, 49, London Met student.

“All I could hear was ‘Chris, Chris’. I walked over the bush and said: ‘Mickey, Mickey, is that you?’ Then someone said ‘No Chris, up here!’

“I looked up from the bush and Mickey was hanging out a window and chucked water all over me.”

Brace yourself

Moral of all three stories, brace yourself for long nights out. London is wonderful for experiences but it can also be dangerous. Make sure to stay as safe as you can whilst still having fun.
