March is starting strong with countless new albums, EPs and singles to enjoy from every genre under the sun. Female artists such as Faye Webster, Adrianne Lenker, and Ariana Grande are all releasing new music, kicking off Women’s History Month.

Faye’s fifth album, ‘Underdressed at the Symphony’ was released the first of March. The album is filled with deep tones from layered vocals in each song, accompanied by emotionally rich lyricism. The second track, ‘But Not Kiss’ shows off Webster’s ability to use lyrics to convey her genuine, confusing emotions following a breakup: “I want to see you in my dreams but then forget” and “But I’m here when you need, I always have”.

The lyrics contrast the mellow energy of her unique vocals, but ‘Lego Ring’ featuring Webster’s close friend and rap artist Lil Yachty, forced Webster and Yachty to change their individual sounds to compliment one another. They combined alternative and rap lyrics to create an incredibly interesting psych-rock vibe for the song.

Ariana Grande is releasing her long-awaited 7th album, her first album since her release of Positions in 2021. The Album titled Eternal Sunshine is due to release on the 8th of March, with the 9th track already released and made viral quickly by TikTok creators.

Track 9, ‘Yes, and?’ gained traction months after Grande’s scandalous new relationship was still fresh news, and many listeners assumed it was solely about her relationship with her Wizard of Oz co-star Ethan Slater.

Looking deeper into the lyrics used in the song, it can be assumed that the song is about her current relationship as it explicitly details how little Grande cares about the public opinion on her relationship: “Why do you care so much whose d**k I ride? Why? ‘Yes, and?’”

Ariana seems to never catch a break in the media, whether people are talking about her weight, skin, or relationships, it seems she’s always under constant speculation for something, and this song seems to be a direct response to the media, “My face is sitting, don’t need no disguise/don’t comment on my body, do not reply”.

Adrianne Lenker, singer from the band ‘Big Thief’, is releasing a solo album for the first time since her 2020 releases of Songs and Instrumentals. Bright Future is set to be released on the 22nd of March, including 3 pre-released singles called, ‘Sadness As a Gift’, ‘Fool’ and ‘Ruined’.

‘Sadness As a Gift’ and ‘Ruined’ follow the artist’s usual melancholy tempo and lyricism, but ‘Fool’ stands out with echoing background vocals and lyrics that feel like falling in love, rather than out as the others do.

It’s difficult to discern the genuine meaning behind this song, at first listen it’s completely plausible that the lyrics are just thought up with no deeper meaning to the artist; but when Lenker ended the song, “I love you till I die / what more can I possibly say? So if you wanna go, I say, ‘Baby, okay, okay’” these lyrics are understood by the listener, it’s clear that the song is about loving someone who is not ready to be loved and all the heartbreak surrounding that.
