Residents in Islington will have the chance to win £25,000 if they sign up to pay their council tax by direct debit.
Islington council offered residents to participate in a London-wide prize draw to help the council save time and money on processing, enforcement and administration costs which will save the council roughly £500,000 a year.
“We thought giving every resident who pays council tax by direct debit the chance to win £25,000 was a great way to say thank you for helping us to reduce costs and freeze council tax”, a media associate for Islington Council said.
Residents will need to sign up to pay their council tax by direct debit before 5pm on 12 July in order to be automatically entered in the prize draw.
After the deadline the number of residents who signed up will be added to the total number of the other 17 London boroughs. The organizers will then draw the winner and inform the council in which the winning account is.
The winner will be contacted by phone or letter and the prize will be paid by bank transfer to the same account from which the direct debit payments were made.
“I normally pay my council tax by direct debit, so I may as well win some money, who knows”, said local resident Sarah Mitchell from Islington.
The winner will be offered to participate in a promotion of the prize draw in the Council’s websites as well as local newspapers and magazines.
