THE ONLINE TAKEOVER OF FASHION

Beauty trends and secrets are everyone’s guilty pleasure, as this is the quick way of knowing what’s hot and what’s not, on the streets or online.

We get influenced by celebrities in what they use and wear and get inspiration from them. Brands like KardashianKollections, harpeet Mac Cosmetics, Maybelline, Rimmel, Zara and many others have made it on to the high street with a reasonable price making it easier for people to buy.

Sarah Redmon, 28, mother of two from Highbury said: “Keeping up with (the) trends (is something) I’ve always struggled with, being a mum it doesn’t come naturally. I know what’s new; it’s just the ‘going to buy them’ which takes time.”

Online shopping is a major deal for consumers and companies; this is the first way that they promote their products. In March 2012, retail companies managed to bag a staggering amount of £8.5 million in promotional campaigns via social networking sites.

Mrs Redmon continued: “I feel shopping online is much easier, I can take my time in choosing what I want and actually can see how a whole outfit comes together, rather than me rushing around to find all the items like a headless chicken.”

During the Christmas period, shopping online has found a giant rise in consumers finding the best deals for products. Certain deals and discounted prices are usually found only online rather than in store, as most stores wait for the sales before they advertise discounted goods.

Promotional codes are also big online, as it gives the consumer money off when purchasing, which you can’t always do in stores. Since this jump from last year most people find online shopping easier and practical in fitting to everyone’s lifestyle.

Whilst signing up to a retail website when purchasing an item, you automatically get sent emails with other promotions and discounts. This viral shopping is beneficial for consumers as you will be spending less by using offers which you wouldn’t get in store, it also guarantees repeat customers which will become profitable for the company.

Make-up brands have new trends nearly every day; each company battling it out, trying to be the best beauty brand with the trend. Although sometimes, not only does the trend and company name matter to consumers; the price plays a big part in it too.

Haajira Asif, 21, said: “I find new designs and styles everyday for when doing my nails, whether it’s on the street or online. I don’t use big branded make up, as I find that with the products I already have or I know, I can buy somewhere else with it being half the price, (and) will still give me the same outcome, without the big price tag.”

Whether it is online or high street shopping it’s not necessary that you always have to splash out on big brands. Knowing you can get the same product and still be in with the trend for half the price is a greater satisfaction.
