Do you want to look like an Instagram model with less effort? Here are a few items that will help you take your style up a notch without having to transform your whole wardrobe.
Bucket Hat
Whether you like it or not, this fashion piece is back, and it’s considered very hot right now. Worn by many actors in some of the most famous movies in the ’90s and the early 2000s, the bucket hat has made a huge comeback and went from 0 to 100 in no time.
One of the most famous versions of this trend is sold by Prada, and many small brands tried to copy the style and sell it for less. Early trend adopter Bella Hadid seems to have one in each style and colour. Other celebrities like Kendall Jenner, Britney Spears and Rihanna has also been spotted rocking the hat. From sun stopper to showstopper, it’s without a doubt amongst today’s favourite forms of headwear.
Cycling shorts
Cycling shorts worn as fashion rather than utility were first seen on the catwalk podiums in the Spring-Summer 2018 season. However, the trend was popularised later in 2019 on the internet when many bloggers and fashion influencers started combing the shorts with blazers and high heels.
Inspired by Kim Kardashian’s Yeezy ‘fits, women are feeling bold enough to test out different versions of this trend. They may seem bizarre but they couldbe here to stay, even though the cycling shorts have made it to our wardrobes as an everyday garment for less than a year. Even designer brands such as Fendi, Chanel and Dior have embraced the trend’s potential.
Monochrome fashion
Some people think that monochrome fashion is wearing only black or white but by definition, it means wearing two separate pieces in the same colour. There has been a recent craze about this trend and it’s now back full time. Think “double denim” and you might be on the right track.
With everyone being quarantined and wearing loungewear most of the time, the trend has come back right on time. Monochromatic sets have almost disappeared from retailer’s websites as stock is snapped up fast, and the trend is all over the social media platforms.
Some fashion gurus match trousers with t-shirts, others with cardigans or sweatshirts. Either way, it’s considered being very fashionable now. The monochromatic trend is seen mainly in pastel colours, beige and black.
Sock shoes
They vary from trainers that look like socks to very slim high heels that look like they have been put in a sock. This trend became very popular in summer 2018, even the famous singer Cardi B included in her song the following text: “I like those Balenciagas, the ones that look like socks.”
The style has existed from a long time but it hasn’t been very popular until the big brands decided to start producing their version, thus inspiring a lot of fashionistas to purchase the product and style it in their own way. The most famous pair of the sock sneaker is sold by Balenciaga for £565. Celebrities such as Gigi Hadid, Neymar and Gwyneth Paltrow were spotted wearing the famous trainers.
The other “sock shoe” trend that is famous now, is a pair of stiletto boots that are so slim that they look like they’ve been covered with a sock. This style has always been out there but recently made a major comeback. Worn by some of the most fashionable A-listers such as Victoria Beckham, Hailey Bieber and Rihanna, this shoe trend is still kickin’ (literally).
Boyfriend shirt
This is an old trend that was very popular around 2014. However, with the cycling shorts craze, it made its way back. Many stylists and fashion bloggers were seen combining the two and it works amazingly. Styled with jeans or shorts, this garment gives you the natural “I woke up this way” look but at the same time it looks very elegant and feminine. This trend has also made it in our favourite A-listers’ wardrobes and has inspired many fashion lovers.
Mom jeans
These jeans are more often high waisted, straight-legged, a rigid-denim product sold by brands like Zara, Topshop and H&M. They were a hit in the 1990s but then were replaced by the skinny jeans in the early 2000s. However, they have made a massive come back amongst the teens and the baggier the better.
Mules
Mules are unique shoes, open at the back and usually closed at the front. They are considered as very stylish and give you the “Million bucks” look. Dragos Nistor, 29, a formative employee of Baldinini, Rome said: “They are one of Baldinini’s best sellers. Because of their comfort and elegance, a lot of women were drawn to them. Customers love them and they are willing to pay hundreds of Euro to get their hands on them.”

Tie-DYE
Another garment that has come back from the ’90s and it has made it onto the quarantine fashion podium because it is very easy to make it at home. Tik Tok videos where people transform their old clothes with bleach or colouring have become viral during quarantine. The original tie-dye trend started in the late 60s and came back around the 90s and now another 30 years later people are again crazy about it. The major difference between now and then is that the past tie-dye designs were packed with more colours, mainly bright and neon tones, where now we notice mainly pastel patterns, usually one colour per garment.
In history, tie-dye has been more popular amongst people who have more time than money, which is a lot of us right now.
Chunky Sneakers
Like most trends today, this one also comes from the ’90s. The chunky sneakers were inspired by unfashionable dads who used to wear them in the ’90s for comfort. The new trend was first launched in Balenciaga’s 2017 winter collection when the designer Demna Gvasalia created the new style. Since then the shoes have been a total hit and people are still crazy about them. They appear as cool on the internet and are worn mainly by teenagers. The most famous design is The Triple S trainer by Balenciaga.
“People love chunky sneakers! They ask for them all the time,” said Emma Dumbrava, 22, a supervisor at Shoe Embassy. “We have a few styles that sell very well. Our shoes are rather formal than sporty but since the trainers were so popular the company came up with more designs. “

Bum Bags
More famous as a “fanny pack” in America, the bum bag comes a long way in the fashion world. This retro accessory made a surprising comeback last year and as weird as it looked at first it’s now a great hit amongst the fashion fans. Celebrities like Taylor Swift and Kendall Jenner were spotted wearing the Prada and Gucci versions of the ’90s and ’80s favourite bag. Some of the most expensive versions of the bag are sold by Dior for £2,000.
Every now and then a trend emerges into the fashion world and becomes mainstream. Some of those trends die earlier than others and come back later. But the ones mentioned above seem like they aren’t going anywhere for a long time. If you want to be a fashionista, consider getting your hands on some of those items and implementing them into your everyday style.
