What is Sport Relief? And what does it do?
In charitable fashion students of City Academy Hackney have been gearing up for their 2km run for Sport Relief as the big day draws ever closer.
Every Friday for the past couple of weeks students have been spending valuable PE lessons at their local sports field running as much as they can as they aim to beat their fundraising target of £4000.
City Academy Hackney are now into there fifth year of the Sports Relief project and believe since the first project all the way back in 2009 it is still getting stronger.
Adam Smith, communication’s manager of City Academy said: “The students and staff all get involved, every year group has a PE lesson every Friday and staff have a go against the older students.
“We have more or less rounded off the fundraising probably pushing the £4,000 mark.
He added, “It is good fun and most of the students raise money through their own sponsorship, it is essentially a 2km course sponsored by friends, family, staff and sponsors.”
The Academy will be holding the Challenge for Sport Relief as part of a week long Sport and Health Week.
Each year group will take part in the challenge and will be competing for the top of the leader board whilst all raising money for Sport Relief.
With all the speculation around students taking part some of the staff have jumped at the opportunity of getting into the fighting fundraising sprit as well.
Many of which have shown signs of bravery as they have stood up against one another fighting for a place at their unofficial staff leader board.
The students and staff have been very lucky that such graceful weather over the past two weeks has allowed them to move forward to creating a big success for the school.
City Academy Hackney now waits patiently to find out how much they have raised.
