With a peak of 194 runners at a running community held in Higbury, Parkrun is meant to be reaching the 200 by the end of this month.
This free run happens every Saturday at 9am and it’s a 5 kilometers run. “It’s not a race, it’s just there for you to get out and run,” said Martin Black, Event Director at Parkrun Highbury Fields.
How it works
Before going to the run there’s a register online, where the registration generates a unique barcode. You will need to print the barcode and bring it with you every time you go for the run. The organisers scan the barcode before you start and after you finish to give the time for your run.
Organised by a team of volunteers “I have a core of seven or eight key people that help me organise the event on a weekly basis and another group helping on an occasional basis,” said Martin.
The event, which has been running since 2011, has only a couple of cancellations along the year such as Christmas day or New Year´s Eve. “People may be affected by the weather but the taking place of the event is not affected by the weather unless is too icy or too snowy,” he added.
Running fever keeps growing becoming popular amongst communities . People tend to become addicted to the sport and some might just run for fun, to get fit or to get ease off stress.
Once the run has finished, you can grab a free coffee at The White Swan at Highbury Corner to recharge your batteries.
