Holloway residents are predicting that Brazil will win the World Cup that commences this Sunday.
Whilst there were predictions that Germany, France, and Argentina could be this year’s winners, Brazil was voted the most likely by far.
Since the World Cup began in 1930, Brazil have been the champions five times, being the country that has won the most times ever.
“Brazil will definitely win. They are an amazing team and I have no doubt about them winning the World Cup their team have the best players,” says 28-year-old actor, Erfan Mousari.
Plagued by controversy in Qatar
The controversy of the World Cup being held in Qatar has sparked a question of legitimacy to the home nation. Molly Barker, 21 said; “I hope Qatar doesn’t win. I don’t think it’s ethical that they are allowed to play because of their views on human rights.”
The Guardian has reported that in the run-up to the World Cup, security forces in Qatar have arbitrarily rounded up and tortured members of the country’s LGBTQIA+ community, and forced them into turning in other members of the community to them.
Despite the controversy, fans are still looking forward to the World Cup and will be supporting a variety of countries.
