Where can you go when you need some support with your mental healht?

For young people, the answer is not always that straightforward.

“In our community we should always have a strong system where when a young person is feeling vulnerable, they should have access to 24hr care for their mental health,” said Emily Fulcher, who is originally from Ireland.

“This generation should have someone to talk to if they are feeling vulnerable or just want to vent out their frustrations.”

Poor mental health is something that can affect almost anyone, regardless of who they are. Communities should have systems in place for members of the younger community members, so they know their voices are heard.

“I believe that there is a support system for everything except mental health services for the youth, so many of our young ones are struggling and are kept on waiting lists but eventually they give up and turn to other means of coping,” said Felix Windsor, a 25-year-old student.

“The support needs to be put into effect, so much so that our youth feel valued and appreciated in the community.”

The youth of today should be allowed to have access to these services because they are a part of the community, they should be able to have someone to speak to if they are feeling under the weather or want to let it all out.

Unfortunately, as of today many young people have given up on the system because of being left on waiting lists or not being given a referral to a mental health treatment facility unit.

As members of the community we should do more to ensure that all the young people are receiving the treatments they deserve and that they are getting the full support they need.
