Hair and beauty salons, as well as barbershops have been told to close due to the new lockdown rules.
Since the lockdown, many businesses have had to shut down due to the new rules. Customers that would often go to either the salon or barbershop expressed how they felt about not being able to go out to their favourite hair and beauty spots.
Joanna Rodriguez, 19, hairdresser/beauty and makeup therapist said: “It’s tough at the moment as we’re in yet another lockdown and as I only started work – my furlough is very low.”
She continues to explain how it has impacted her health. “Working there constantly wearing a mask does make me extra tired and honestly gives me a dry mouth as I talk to my clients a lot.
“It’s scary working when I have to as I have to touch other people which make it very risky for me.”
Adijat Yesufu-Mohammed, 20, Forensic Psychology student at Open University, said: “In terms of salons being closed, it has made it difficult to obviously wash my hair, which can be frustrating cause taking care of natural hair is a lot of work, but it hasn’t been my focus.
“Yes, it has been quite mentally draining for the most part but also, okay I guess. Some positive learning new things, having more time doing things I like, being a bit more grounded in myself and just being grateful for more.”
Some people have decided to take haircuts into their own hands, often with hysterical results. YouTube is full of tutorials on how to cut your own hair, and sales of hair scissors and electric shavers have never been higher.
