It’s a onesie world. If you don’t have one, get one! Who would have thought that Primark’s ridiculous cotton, animal print onesies would be the beginning of a fashion hit.
It is this winter’s must have. After a long day, there is nothing better than going home and snuggling into a onesie on a cold winter’s night.
Who knew three friends from Norway would be sitting around in an idea that would take over the world.
Henrik, Knut and Thomas are the three responsible musketeers that wanted the perfect chill-out wear for a lazy day.
It was in 2007 that they decided to sew together a hooded sweatshirt and a pair of sweatpants with a long zip to get into it.
The three friends dropped everything and invested in their loose-fitting all-in-one hoody idea in a variety of colours and patterns.
Thomas said: “We were as surprised as anyone when people started wearing the OnePiece at clubs and it became a fashion and lifestyle statement.
“ I think that the versatility of our jumpsuit and the fact that it is extremely comfortable are the main reasons for its success.”
President and partner of OnePiece, Ole Fjelberg has said: “I believe they’re so popular because they are a fashion statement and when you get your OnePiece jumpsuit you also get into a lifestyle we call the ‘slacker’ lifestyle.
“We’ve been helped pushing the brand by a great array of celebrities like the One Direction guys, Mario Balotelli, Ed Westwick, Rizzle Kicks, Dizzie Rascal, Pixie Lott, Louis Walsh and more.”
With high streets selling them such as New Look, Topshop and River Island, it seems the unisex jumpsuits have even grown popular for men in the high street’s Topman.
27 year-old Maria Artimetou, a sales assistant for New Look said: “I was pretty surprised with the response of the onesies. They came in stock and sold rapidly fast, especially for Christmas.
“It is the perfect wear to go home after a long day and put on. I think the reason they are so comfortable is because they’re so different. Their comfortable, their stylish, they come in so many different colours. Our onesie sizes come in at small, medium and large.”
Miss-guided, Boohoo, and eBay have also joined in with the excitement this season selling onesies online. With a smaller price tag to the ‘OnePieces’, it is no wonder their fast selling too, with eBay selling customised onesies, so you can design your onesie however you want.
It seems celebrities have taken it to the extreme as TOWIE’s Ricky Raymond and Jessica Wright were seen in matching ‘His’ and ‘Hers’ onesies.
Even ex TOWIE, reality star, Amy Childs has decided to follow the trend and has now set up her own website with personal coloured velour tracksuits at the price of £65. In November last year, Amy’s popular vajazzled onesies sold a massive 2,000 online in just three days. It was called by the Daily Star the ‘season’s must have, you can expect no less from the Essex star that even start from a size 4.”
Who would have thought the comfortable chill-out wear would be a hit even off of the sofa and have now achieved the status of acceptable outside wear. As the weather gets colder what other excuse do you need to go out and get it one?
So go on, join the trend!
