Nike ends contract with Greenwood over sexual assault allegations

Nike have terminated their sponsorship contracts with Manchester United and England forward Mason Greenwood, 20, following allegations of rape, sexual assault and threats-to-kill that surfaced two weeks ago.

Greenwood was arrested on suspicion of rape after ex-girlfriend Harriet Robson, posted a series of videos and audio recordings showcasing signs of physical abuse and threats to rape and kill. He was released on bail on the 2nd of February.

Following the accusations made against the Manchester United forward, he will no longer be training with the club.

On the 31st of January, Manchester United had released an official statement. “We will not make any further comment until the facts have been established. Manchester United does not condone violence of any kind,” the club said, “[Greenwood] won’t return to training or play matches until further notice.”

Greater Manchester police after being granted more time to question the footballer, had to release him on bail on the 2^nd of February.

Lending support and encouragement 

Robson has recently broken her silence in the wake of Greenwood’s arrest by sharing a post on her Instagram page thanking everyone that has sent messages of support and encouragement.

After describing the past couple of weeks as “very difficult,” she added that she won’t be making any further statement until the police investigation will be over. 

The couple met at secondary school and had been dating for five years.
