A Holloway Road landmark is due a makeover, but some people have concerns about the conservation of the charming building.
The 1938 Holloway Road cinema which has been an Islington landmark for decades has been re-designed by Odeon Luxe, which has become an issue for those worried about about the historic preservation of edifices in the area.
Ciaran Horner, 32, works nearby the Cinema in Angel. He said: “Whilst I think it’s great that this cinema is getting a renovation, I’m a bit disappointed about how they have done it.
“It doesn’t seem very tasteful to put these massive signs on the side of a beautiful; building, but I guess it’s better than letting it rot…”
The building, which is a reminder of Holloway Road’s history was first opened in 1938 to stage live shows and films.
It survived the second world war and has been through various renovations over the years including a £3 Million restoration in 2016.
An Odeon spokesman told the Camden New Journal: “We know how special the heritage of the cinema is so have ensured the refurbishment keeps the balance between retaining the cinema’s classic charm, while introducing modern innovations.
“We are excited for what is to come and are sure guests will be impressed with the experience.”
