Michael Reid, 41, was found guilty at the Highbury Corner Magistrates Court for committing £72 worth of theft.

On the 18th of January 2018, at approximately 1.30pm, Mr Reid allegedly entered an Asda store, took £72 worth of Gillette razor blades, entered the toilets and bit the tags off. He was approached by security and later detained by the police.

The court heard that Mr Reid was diagnosed as schizophrenic, and did not have any money as his benefits had been halted by the state. He wanted to sell the razors in order to acquire enough money to buy himself food.

He was found guilty and given a six-month conditional discharge, and a victim surcharge of £20 to be paid within four weeks, with no additional charges due to his current financial circumstances.
