Man accused of leaving threatening voicemail for probation officer

A man has appeared before Highbury Corner Magistrates’ court this morning charged with threatening to kill a probation officer.

David Payne-Moy, 34, pleaded guilty to sending an aggressive voicemail to probation worker David Sebastian on 12^th April 2018.

The prosecution told the court that the defendant had called the claimant at 11:48pm, and left a message that suggested that Mr Payne-Moy wanted to kill Sebastian.

The defence said that in the transcript of the voicemail, the defendant had said: “The more you do not help me, the more I want to kill you and the court.” The defence said that Payne-Moy had in fact said he wanted to kill himself, not the claimant, after spending 10 months being homeless.

The defence later said that the defendant was a sufferer of ADHD and had been abused during childhood and adolescence. It was said to the court that Payne-Moy was part of the “lowest parameters of IQ in the country”.

An updated probation report on the defendant confirmed that he had previously been sectioned due to mental health issues, and was currently banned from going to the probation office.

The case was adjourned until the 14^th of May, when the defendant will meet with the team to discuss a course of action.
