LFW SS20: Looks for less

London Fashion Week kicked off in February showing off the Autumn/Winter 2021 trends. But with Spring around the corner, you can shop the top trends for Spring/Summer 2020, without having to splurge out on the designer costs.

We’ve seen it on the catwalks and now you can wear it too! Imitate the likes of Ralph Lauren, Burberry and Dolce and Gabbana in some of the spots in and around Holloway.

Plaid

Known for its iconic check print, Burberry was one of the designers to send the SS20 plaid trend down the catwalk. This time the designer opted for a different colourway to its original print.

Find plaid trend for a quarter of the price inside Blue17 Vintage store based on Holloway Road. You’ll have to delve in deep, as they have rails upon rails of clothing. A plaid dress was priced at just £25 and they offer a range of plaid shirts.

Emily Stevens, 20, a student and a customer at Blue17 said: “The brands set the trends, we want to follow them. I like taking inspiration from the designers and then creating the looks myself because I can’t afford the designer price tag.

“At Blue Vintage, you can find always find something, old or new and it still fits the trends in some way.”

Animal Print

Animal prints keep coming back season after season. Stand out from the crowd by getting your best spots or stripes out this summer. Dolce and Gabbana had a jungle vibe on their runway and Burberry, who seem to be fitting all the trends in to their SS20 collection, showed off a wide range of zebra print.

Head down to the Topshop concession inside Selbys on Holloway Road where you can find a variety of prints. Keep it subtle and wear the bold prints as an accessory to jazz up any outfit.

Topshop sales assistant, Monica Vieira, 25, said: “I have worked in Topshop for two years and the animal print trend keeps coming back each season, customers seem to love it.

“Topshop offer so much variety when it comes nailing the latest trends. They either do it subtly with an accessory or go with an animal print boiler suit, but they always have something that works for everyone.”

Pattern Play

Mix stripes with florals and spots with checks because pattern play is the next big thing. Erdem sent a floral piece down the runway, with clashing prints and colours. It feels like the 50s, 60s and 70s rolled into one!

Minimalism… What even is that? Be brave and clash those prints. Find some great patterned pieces at Vivien Of Holloway where you can buy their own collection of 1940s and 50s inspired pieces.

Scarf Dressing

When you think of scarves you relate them to winter but now you can wear them for summer. Burberry and Erdem show us that you don’t have to just drape them around the neck, use them as a belt or a top too.

Spiffy, a boutique shop based on Holloway Road, sell a variety of printed scarves from florals to check and are currently half price sold at just £12. Whilst you’re there browse for gifts and clothing too!

Boutique owner Rob, said: “When we buy items for the shop, we plan for over a year in advance. We also try to base trends off what our customers like and recommend us to bring in to store. We cater to a broad market from 13-80+ we want you all ages to be able to get something.”
