Fears over women’s safety in Islington increase after an undercover police documentary exposes the hidden misogyny and racism within the Metropolitan Police.
“The documentary has made me not trust the police, their attitude towards women is disgusting, how am I as a woman supposed to trust them to help me, I am afraid of them,” says Carys Morgan, 22, a teaching assistant from Highbury.

A BBC One Panorama Documentary exposing racism and misogynistic behaviour from Met Police officers found both police officers and sergeants displaying misogynistic behaviour whilst on duty.
Residents of Islington are aware of the rise in racism and misogyny within the Metropolitan Police and were eager to share their opinions.
Brandon Squires, a 27-year-old labourer from Highbury, stated: “I think that especially in the Met Police there is a lot of racism. You see it everywhere in the news, stories of wrongful arrests just because of the colour of their skin.”
He added: “Women aren’t taken seriously when they report crimes, it puts them in unsafe situations with no one to go to.”
It is apparent that the Metropolitan Police need to respond to the allegations the BBC documentary ‘Panorama’ stated as the locals’ fear and distrust of the Police continue to rise.
