With the mayoral election taking place this Thursday, Islington seems to be in support of Labour candidate Sadiq Khan.
“I’m voting Labour – because I hate the Tories,” a Holloway local told the Holloway Express.
Islington is a predominantly a left-wing borough, which boasts a Labour mayor, a majority of Labour councillors and MP Jeremy Corbyn – leader of the Labour party.
Speaking to the Islington Gazette, Khan vowed to fix the two biggest problems facing the borough – knife crime and the housing crisis.
Although a Tooting MP, Sadiq Khan is no stranger to Islington, having attended London Metropolitan University on Holloway Road and has lived in Tufnell Park for three years.
Opposition Conservative candidate, Zac Goldsmith told Islington Now what he sees as the biggest challenge for Islington in the next four to five years.
He said: “Like in many areas in London, there is a huge challenge in Islington for people on average salaries to get the keys to their first home.”
