There is no doubt that the pandemic has created boundaries when it comes to travel. Each country has set up their own restrictions to try to stop the virus spreading. This has continued after the arrival of Covid vaccines: but are these restrictions too onerous, especially for people that rely on travel for their work?

The varied restrictions have brought disadvantages for the airline companies and for us, as going from one country to another is not that easy anymore as it used to be.

Negative results of Covid tests are required; depending on the country you arrive in, you might need to take three on different days of your isolation period. You might even need to invest a significant portion of your hard-earned cash into institutional quarantine, if you are in a country on a ‘red list’.

“Fuss during lockdown”

Monica Bucur is a business consultant from Romania who used to travel abroad often, to work with different clients. “It was horrible to go through all that fuss during the lockdown,” she said.

“I lost a lot of clients because some of them as well have lost their businesses, while the rest have just changed to a local consultant just because I couldn’t meet them in person anymore, to discuss private matters. Horrible, I’m telling you!”

When asked about the benefits that the vaccine has brought to travel, she said: “Now I feel like things are coming back to normal, even if I have to work just in a few countries, at least now that I am vaccinated, I don’t have to self-isolate myself at the arrival in the country.”

Forbidden paradise

For travel bloggers, the situation looks more catastrophic. “Imagine being in the paradise and not being able to go and explore it,” says Alina Ceausan, a blogger who admits she was more successful before lockdown.

“Being forced to self-isolate yourself 14 or 10 days when you have maybe just 15 at your time, is just breaking you mentally, it’s like travelling between walls, it was my worst nightmare!”

Alina is hoping that as more people are vaccinated, a lot of the restrictions regarding travelling will be lifted. “Now that I got both my doses I don’t need to lock myself in a hotel room anymore, and I can just go to get as much inspiration as I want! I really feel like things are getting back normal,” she said.

Fingers crossed for your next trip…
