The back to basics coffee shop is a welcomed break from city life, or a perfect go to for that take-out on your way-to-work quickie. The authentic wooden furniture and crumbling walls complements the nutty, smooth taste of this idiosyncratic cafe’s special roast. Since opening its doors in 2013, it has been a firm favourite among Holloway road locals. “It’s rewarding when you see people coming back day after day, there are so many options and to know people chose your coffee is well good,” said Vagabond barista John Morley, 27. He dances hot milk onto a carefully measured and freshly poured shot of coffee. “Creating the perfect coffee is an art definitely, yeah.” An art that Vagabond have definitely mastered.

Don’t be deceived by the petite shop front of this hidden gem. Take the steps downstairs to discover the ‘at home’ atmosphere and on point coffee selection. You can even grab a seat by the fire. Sunny outside? Fresh juices and iced lattes will be sure to cool you down. Homemade cakes and an unusual breakfast and lunch menu make this a popular eating and coffee-drinking spot. Initiated by three brothers, The Barn is true to its word: a “relaxed environment with amazing coffee to match”.

This adorable vegan and vegetarian cafe is a another of Holloway’s finest, with a must-try chai soy latte to make you go weak at the knees. The puppy-friendly coffeehouse has been welcomed by health conscious locals. “I’m so happy to see another vegetarian cafe pop up,” said yoga teacher and Islington resident Eva Halily, 43. “We need more of them if anything.” It must be good – Time Out gives it five stars.
