The Holloway Arts Festival is proud to bring back The Big Day Out on Sunday 3 June, offering a fun-packed afternoon for all to enjoy.

The free event, hosted in Whittington Park, will feature a range of activities and stalls for children. The festival will see local and international artists perform, including North London rapper Kainee Boy Set (KBS).

After campaigning to stop the closure of Whittington Park 10 years ago, organisers have decided to carry on the tradition to mark the spirit of the community. Nathania Wong, Associate Producer of the Holloway Arts Festival, said: “The Big Day Out is a free outdoor event for the people of Islington to come together and enjoy live music and arts and crafts workshops.”

The event will run from 1pm until 5pm, and is funded by the Holloway Neighbour Group as well as Islington Council. Live bands, provided by the Lovebuzz project, will be giving free music courses to young people aged 13-25.

The festival was established in 2003 by the Rowans Art Project (RAP), who set it up to stop the closure of Whittington Park in 2002. After successfully campaigning for the park to remain open, the RAP continued to host annual events to showcase the great community spirit in Islington.

Ruth Robinson, Director of RAP, said: “The Holloway Arts Festival will be offering a range of activities over a 10-day period, including The Big Day Out and Mayton Street Festival. We are also giving people a chance to see one of the nation’s best loved poets, John Hegley, at Platform on Hornsey Road.”
