The public are arguing that charity shop prices are not as cheap as they once were, with the cost of living crisis, the prices are supposedly steadily rising alongside inflation.

But is this fact or fiction?

Undeniably, people have seen an increase in cost everywhere they go, this now includes some of the nations well known, cheapest second hand clothing stores.

This could be a fatal blow, for those of Holloway Road that rely on charity shops for affordable clothing.

Prices affordable or not?

Have they really got more expensive? Or is £39.99 reasonable?

“No they have not risen, price is according to the brand and condition of the product”. Said a local charity shop worker, who wished not to be named, same with the store.

In contrary with this statement a local shopper in the store, Millie Reid, 23 said “I remember before covid, everything used to be £1 or £2, nowadays I cant get anything for under a tenner”.

Does this mean that many people will turn from supporting local charity shops, if high street retailers and fast fashion is cheaper?

Charity shops could be facing threats of potentially having to close their door, leading to the next generation not knowing charity shops exist.
