Haringey Encourages Children to Become Tennis Stars

Haringey Council aims to encourage the local community to play more and better tennis. In a partnership with Fusion Lifestyle, they offer three coaching sessions at New River Lawn Tennis Club (formerly White Hart Lane Tennis Club) for £75.60 in a week for all age groups.

SOhail pictureThere are three classes a week, with adults and kids in different groups, and they’re currently looking forward to put a fourth session in.

“In groups, we focus on the techniques and forehands and where to put them,” said Josh Middleton, the tennis coach, who has been with the club for the past year. “In individual training session, we focus on the final detail of the shorts. There are few among the young trainees who could become tennis stars.”

Anita Watson is a mother of two whose daughter has been attending the classes for five years now. “She has developed a lot, she has been offered a whole load of opportunities, such as meeting tennis players, and it has helped her boost her confidence. They play tournaments, and those tournaments are what get the drive going that we can actually do this.”

Ms Watson added, though, that they would like to have professional coaches that can “take kids to places.” “Not that the current choaches aren’t enough, but I want to see my kid going all the way and achieve a lot.”
