Halloween is traditionally a time of spooky costumes. But Islington locals said Tuesday that this year they’re taking a funnier route when planning their nights out and celebrations.
Holloway Road has been filled with celebrations over the weekend into the spooky day. Fireworks and Bonfire Night are the one of the many ways Londoners celebrate Halloween. Locals told about what they’ve already done and are planning on doing to mark this holiday.
Costumes are a massive, if not the biggest, part of Halloween celebrations. Frank Alan Lock, 28, uni student, had a particularly interesting costume idea this year: “I wore my scrubs and a cat mask and I was Doctor Pussy innit, it’s funny.”

Halloween is a night to express your personality and interests, and people often do this by dressing up as their favourite superhero. David Low, 19, uni student, decided to be fruity instead: “I was dressed up as a banana. It went down well, it was quite funny.”
It’s no fun to celebrate all alone, so many people head out to the pubs, clubs or parties to spread their festive spirit. Low said: ”I had some parties I went to but no trick-or-treating, sadly.”
Others spend it showing their creative side by making cute jack-o-Lanterns to decorate. Ryan Whitelam, 31, said: “I don’t know if I am going to dress up, but we’re going to be carving pumpkins.”
It’s never too early to start planning for next year’s celebration as well, so maybe instead of something terrifying, you can become your own personal comedian. You can be like David and be a banana or like Frank and create a completely unique costume, where it’s certain you won’t be accidentally matching anyone.
Happy Halloween!
