If you want to enjoy an event that’s Halal, free and fun, listen to the people from the muzmatch Dating App, a Tinder-type app for Muslims to find their lifelong partner.
Muzmatch is commemorating International Women’s Day on Sunday 8th March with their #SayItSis Gender Equality in Islam event in Whitechapel, to be held on Wednesday 4th March from 18:00 – 21:00.
This event will be exploring the importance of gender equality in the Muslim community, and will include discussions on some significant topics such as equality in marriage, and the role of women in the workplace and education. It will also celebrate the role of women in a wider society.
“It was important for us to start hosting offline events to give our users a platform to talk about the issues that matter to them. Muslims just don’t talk about this stuff enough!” said muzmatch CEO Shahzad Younas.
Alina Ahmed, a local Islington stay-at-home mum, said: “The Qur’an gives us women and men equal rights. It gives us women men the right to life, education, property and the right to free choice.”.
In our society we tend to hold back from conversations and we don’t always want to speak openly about certain topics, which are easily ignored or tricky to discuss, Younas said. “The purpose of the hashtag #SayItSis was to facilitate a wider digital conversation beyond the confines of the venue and beyond the scope of the discussion.”
This event is open to both men and women and will feature a networking reception, a short film by muzmatch’s charity partners Forgotten Women, and a panel discussion and Q&A. It will also feature a mocktail networking reception. Cheers!
