“So wear me like a locket around your throat I’ll weigh you down I’ll watch you choke, you look so good in blue, you look so good in blue”.
While Fall Out Boy fans may not have been weighed down by a locket this morning many found themselves weighed down with heavy disappointment. The 4 piece pop-punk band that split in 2009 last week announced that they would be playing Camden’s Underworld on the 25th of February, a venue with a capacity of only 500.
Tickets went on sale 9am on Friday the 8th of February. With such a big band playing such a small venue fans knew they were going to have to be quick to score the coveted tickets. By 9:01am on the 8th tickets had sold out. Fans are now in a dispute with ticket companies over claims that the tickets had been available 5 minutes early, meaning many missed out because of a technical glitch.
Dave Wood, a water distribution engineer from London is one of around 14,500 fans that wasn’t lucky enough to get a ticket for the show but he isn’t giving up easily.
“I have made a formal complaint about SEEtickets selling out before scheduled time of release to Watchdog. I am so angry, real fans have lost out on seeing the band and a lot of the tickets have gone to touts just trying to make a profit, it’s disgusting”.
Ticket venders set a 2 ticket per person limit that must be collected from the box office on the evening of the gig to avoid re-sale of tickets, however tickets have started to appear on Ebay for as much as £200.
While staff at Underworld were unavailable for comment, Seetickets has issued a statement apologising to those who didn’t get tickets, explaining that the high demand and amount of traffic on the website did cause system errors.
It seems no amount of apologising is appeasing outraged fans who had set their hearts set on a newly svelte Patrick Stumpe serenading them once more. With the last year alone having seen Alexisonfire’s farewell tour, Finch saying goodbye to “What It Is To Burn” in March, Taking Back Sunday having toured America with “Tell All Your Friends” 10 years on, fans of the genre are feeling disheartened.
Sadie Pepperrell who has been doing the “emo” rounds for the last few years commented:
“It is sad to see it all on its way out. I have seen Fall Out Boy on every one of their British tours and can’t believe I am going to be missing one a 10 minute walk from my house. I was so close to tears when tickets had sold out, I pretty much blame SEEtickets for everything”.
Fall Out Boy have also been announced for Reading and Leeds. While it might not be the same as being in the lucky 500 it seems there is still time to squeeze into those skinny jeans, dust off those over-sized leopard print bows and sing your heart out like you’re 16.
