Despite the hopeful outlook that we had for the ending of our current lockdown, more dark clouds have appeared in the form of the Oxford COVID-19 vaccine, as some countries stop using it in fear of side effects.
The most recent country to suspend the vaccine was Ireland, fearing the suspected side effect that has been linked to the death of a man in Norway.
Although there is no official link between the vaccine and the development of these blood clots, countries Like Ireland, Norway, Germany and the Netherlands have postponed giving the vaccine to people.
However, it has to be left with the professionals to determine whether these suspensions were the right move, as the European Medicines Agency are expected to release a report within the next two days, giving their findings on whether the blood clots are linked.
However, they released a statement stating they firmly believe there is no link.
Some also fear that despite any reassurances, there will be a resurgence of people refusing the vaccination out of fear.
“Loads of people believe what they read, and it will deter people due to fear of getting a blood clot,” says Kit Wells, university student.
Some people see the vaccine as a lesser evil in the face of the pandemic, such as Film and Photography student, Mali Bey.
“I think most people wouldn’t take it just to be safe but if you’re in a bad condition and the vaccine is your only option, people would take it even if it put them at risk.”
