Minimal electronic music is more than just a genre. It’s a movement that thrives on simplicity, precision, and hypnotic rhythms.
Minimal electronic music is different from mainstream electronic music. According to an article from Avimag, it didn’t really appear on the scene until the mid-90s.
The term is used by anyone who listens to something electronic, not techno, not house, but somewhere in between. While traditional electronic often relies on complex layering and heavy drops, minimal music strips things down to their core elements, creating a unique sonic experience that resonates deeply with the dedicated target audience.
Carmelo Zocco, 30 and Pasquale Ruggero, 31, are two of these talents, nicknamed Analog_Disease, a London-based DJ duo originally from Italy. Both have been passionate about electronic music for years, performing before under their own names Carmelo as Kamerol Music and Pasquale as Rabanne Music.

In January 2024, they became housemates, which strengthened their creative connection to this genre of music and led them to join forces as Analog_Disease.
‘’We’ve always been big fans of electronic music in all forms,” says Zocco. ‘’ We were inspired by legends like Kraftwerk, the Berlin synth-pop scene, and Giorgio Moroder in Italy. Then, as we started exploring underground clubs and festivals like Time Wrap and Sunwaves, we fell in love with minimal electronic music and the hypnotic sound of famous artists of this genre like Riccardo Villalobos, Francesco Del Garda, and RPR Sound.’’
Their name, Analog_Disease, reflects their love for analog gear. ‘’We have the same vision for the music. Both of us are obsessed with old-school drum machines and synthesizers. The imperfections of analogue sound give the music a warmth and soul,” he explains.
What makes minimal electronic music special?
For Analog_Disease, minimal is about hypnotic rhythms, deep grooves and attention to detail. “It’s not about big drops. It’s about creating a journey with subtle variations,” Ruggero says. When they play, they aim to build a deep connection with the audience, ‘’ It’s a continuous flow that puts the crowd into the sound of our music” Ruggero adds.

The artists who have always influenced and inspired the duo the most are Onur Ozer, Rhadoo, Anthony Rother, Zip and Craig Richards. ‘’These artists inspire us because they don’t just play music, but they tell a story through their sets” explains Zocco.
Technology and the future of minimal music
Modern technology has changed how minimal music is made, but Analaog_Disease believe in the importance of keeping the human touch. ‘’Modular synthesizers and digital tools give us lots of possibilities, but we personally think that the magic happens when you mix technology with live, unpredictable elements,” Zocco says.
‘’Breaking into the scene is not easy. The hardest part today is staying unique in a crowded market, and it is very tough to stand out without making any compromises.”
Their advice to aspiring DJs and producers? ‘’Listen as much music as possible, experiment, and develop your own sound instead of following trends,” he adds.

The minimal scene is different in every country. ‘’In Italy, there is still a small underground movement, in Germany, for example, this music is mixed more with house and techno while in other countries like Romania they have their own distinct sound, with deep and refined grooves,’’ Ruggero explains.
