The Holloway Express looks through the key sport moments of the weekend and the up-coming week.
Chelsea was crowned as the new Premier League Champion after a 1-0 victory over Crystal Palace.
Eden Hazard’s 1-0 goal at the 45th minute secured the title for Chelsea. With only three games left, and the closest rival Manchester City 13 points behind, there is no one left to challenge the Blues.
This is the third title Chelsea has won with manager Jose Mourinho.
“This one is my latest title, so it’s the most important one, and for sure I want to get another one,” Mourinho told The Evening Standard.
The club is planning a victory parade to be held at 25th of May.
Mayweather still unbeatable
The whole world stopped for a while to see the biggest fight of the century. The unbeaten champion Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao finally met in the ring in Las Vegas’ MGM Grand Garden Arena.
After 12 rounds Mayweather was crowned as the champion after a unanimous decision from the judges. The American took home the biggest check in the history of sport, earning over 100 million US dollars.
Manny Pacquiao was disappointed on the judges ruling.
“I thought I won the fight. He didn’t do nothing except move outside. I got him many times,” Pacquiao said in the News Tribune.
Champions League continues
The teams get fewer and the games get harder as the Champions League semi-finals kick off today, when Real Madrid visits Juventus.
Real Madrid is the biggest favourite to qualify to the finals, and Juventus can’t allow any away goals for the Spanish club if they want to stay in the game.
The big question lies with the goalkeepers. Real Madrid’s Iker Casillas hasn’t been at his best this season, like the 3-4 loss against Schalke showed us. Gianluigi Buffon on the other hand is a calm, reliable keeper and arguably a better one than Casillas. He can keep the net empty even under pressure.
On Wednesday there will be a real treat when FC Barcelona hosts Bayern München. The two super clubs both have strong teams and anything could happen when these two meet.
Barca definitely has a bone to pick with the German team. The last time these two teams met in Champions League, FC Barcelona lost both games with the aggregate score 7-0.
The ex-Barca coach Pep Guardiola is faced with a difficult task when entering the feared Camp Nou, especially after Bayern München lost their last CL away game in Porto.
