Sustainability is one of the most discussed topics in the fashion industry nowadays.
With the debut of fast fashion, the phenomenon of second-hand shopping is monopolising the clothing industry by leaps and bounds, and many people wonder if sustainable fashion is viable for both companies and consumers.
Fortunately, several forms of implementing sustainable, effective and economical fashion practices do not require an exaggerated investment.
Stephanie Hardy, 36, a receptionist from Archway, said, “I usually buy my clothes in a regular shop, but to be honest in charity shops it is possible to find nice accessories for a cheaper price.
“I don’t spend a lot of money in this kind of shop because not always I find what I need or what I like, even because being a second-hand shop they have a limited choice of size and style.”

Charity shops are a cornerstone of sustainability in fashion, an economical but no less cool way to dress in style and shop responsibly. It is certainly not about garments produced sustainably, but it still allows you to reuse fashion items, avoiding the production of new ones.
The great thing about second-hand clothing is that you can find shops for all tastes and with a limited budget.
However, in the last few years, those who do not love charity shops are using different platforms that buy second-hand clothes, such as Vinted, allowing people to give a second life to all those clothes they do not wear anymore.
Zoe Tay, a 24-year-old nurse from Camden, said, “I think that buying second-hand clothes and accessories is a good way to save money and help the sustainability in the fashion industry.
“I don’t mind what people think when I say that what I am wearing is from a charity shop or second-hand clothes. I prefer to be more sustainable than fashionable and know that I have done my little to change the consumption of unnecessary things.
“Social media is toxic. Everything is about money and barely about sustainability. This way of acting makes me sick. Capitalism is a big issue, and many people do not understand the bad impact on the world. Maybe people don’t know how to be sustainable but others are selfish and do not care about it.”
People must achieve a goal, and this is becoming more sustainable.
For this it is important that everyone must reduce over buying unnecessary clothes but instead try to be more sustainable as everyone can buy second-hand clothes and accessories.
