Hooded raiders burgled London’s first board game café on Bank Holiday Monday.
Draughts café in Haggerston Acton Mews was left £3,000 short after the burglars broke into the café while it was closed for Easter, taking off with the cash, an iPad and electrical equipment.
An office and four board games were trashed, as the thieves looked for the keys to a safety deposit box.
During the raid, which went on for about an hour, a kitchen was also vandalised and a safe ripped out of the wall, leaving a costly amount of damages equal to the businesses’ Bank Holiday takings.
The owners of the café had installed CCTV and caught clear images of the suspect’s faces, which they later revealed on Twitter for the public to help find the men.
Owner Nick Curci, 35, has said he believes the thieves knew there would be Bank Holiday takings in the café, which were to be taken to the bank on the Tuesday.
The café was forced to close for a day after the raid for repairs.
There has been an overwhelming amount of support for the café all over social media after the public heard about the break in.
The café opened in November after a kick-starter scheme raised £20,000 to help the café get started. It is one of a few gaming cafes in London alongside Loading bar in Dalston and Four Quarters in Peckham.
