A former contestant of the smash hit factual show The Great British Bake Off is hoping to show something special as she opened a new cafe next to to the Enfield Town library on Church Street.
Urvashi Roe, who competed on series two of the BBC programme back in 2011, opened her cafe earlier this week and has been a welcome addition to the high street according to customers at her cafe. The cafe serves a wide host of hot beverages in addition to cakes, pastries, sandwiches, light brownies and other baked delights.
Speaking to The Holloway Express, Urvashi said she wanted to provide something different to what is already being provided by the high street chains. “I felt it was important to offer something that the locals want, foods that have a homemade feel to them,” She said: “I try to provide my customers with specialty baked foods whose ingredients are sourced locally. It is just a way of me doing my bit.”
A former recruitment consultant, Urvasi decided a change of career after contesting on the Great British Bake off. She wanted to try her hands on the one thing that she is passionate about – baked food.
“I have been passionate about baking food since I was a child. I think it was something that I became attuned to through my grandmother,” said Roe. In addition to providing tasty bakes at the café, she hopes to teach locals the skills of baking food.
Talking to some of her customers at her cafe, they spoke highly of the new outlet. Stephen Hunter, a retired post man who has lived in Enfield for almost sixty years said: “The high street has been changing drastically in the last twenty years with many of the big multinational chains taking up so much space, so it is good to see one of the locals opening a cafe here, plus her cakes are so tasty.”
In addition to the people of Enfield, it seems the politicians also are quite pleased with the opening of The Library Cafe. Ayfer Orhan, Enfield’s councillor and member of the education children’s services and protection, spoke positive of the new café: “I welcome the opening of the library cafe and it is an excellent addition to our library services. I have not visited the cafe myself but I have heard a lot of positive feedback. I wish Mrs Roe the best in this business venture.”
