It’s not the Notting Hill Carnival, but it still promises to be a lot of fun. This year, the pre-Lent carnival takes place from the second week of January until the 13th of February.
This is a period of fun, parties and celebrations before the Christian period of Lent starts.
The tradition of dressing up for carnival goes back to the 15th century, and one of the most important parts of celebrating carnival is choosing a perfect costume. The more unique and colorful the better – but where can you find the most outstanding pieces? There is nothing like a signature outfit found in a charity shop, as a unique look is practically guaranteed.
“I always want things to have a unique or edgy pin. Charity shopping makes that easy, enjoyable and win for all parties,” said Louise Croft, 28-year-old fashion blogger and vintage lover.
Islington is home to numerous charity shops – Mary’s Living and Giving Shop, Fara Charity Shop and Marie Curie foundation store are just some of them. Every fashion lover would be able to find something unique and perfect for carnival celebrations.
“I often stop by and have a look in local charity shops and stores with vintage fashion. Islington ones are the best – you can always find one and only piece for special events,” said Martina Laris, 29, who works in an office in Islington.
There are different exciting events taking place in London during pre-lent carnival but the main one is a Puerto Rican Carnival, taking place in O2 Academy in Islington with live music, food and drinks provided.
Carnival is a special period when people are able to have fun, got to a party or parade and forget about everyday life. It is an opportunity to be someone else and celebrate the beauty of uniqueness. A visit to a local charity shop will provide an unforgettable experience, helping you to become a queen or a king of the night with a one-of-a-kind outfit.
