An interview with BBC3 actress Natasha Jonas

By Hussain Popelzai

I was lucky enough to catch up with Islington’s very own, Natasha Jade Jonas, one of the stars of BBC3’s ‘Some Girls’. For those of you who haven’t been lucky enough to see the hit show; it’s based on four school girls living in London and showing how school life can actually be.

Natasha who plays the mean, aggressive, ASBO child Holly opens up and tells me about her journey so far.

Me: How did you get into acting?

Natasha: It was by luck really … I was at school and I heard about some auditions being held in one of the drama rooms for a film … which turned out to be Joe Cornish’s ‘Attack the Block’. I went to the audition, got the part and it begun from their (said with a smile) but I’ve always been interested in acting, like the challenge of being a completely different character. You have to change your mind-set and see life in somebody else’s shoes.

Me: So tell me about your character

Natasha: I play Holly, who is an aggressive chav. She has anger issues and nearly 24/7 is on some sort of rampage but personally I think deep down she is nice …

Me: Any similarities between you and your character?

Natasha: (Bursts out laughing) ermmm I hope not! I’m not aggressive, I’m not violent and deffo not a chav but some friends and family members tends to disagree (shrugs shoulders)

Me: What’s been your favourite episode so far?

Natasha: Has to be episode 3 where Holly has a fake panic attack to try and get herself out of a sticky situation with her headmaster. Although that scene took 2 hours it was just fun to film and it was such a ‘Holly’ thing to do.

Me: How did you find working with the rest of the cast?

Natasha: I’m very lucky to have the crew and cast I’m working. I get along with girls really well … We all have a group chat and whatsapp and all sorts. It definitely has made my time on set a lot easier and you can see the chemistry on the show.

Me: What has been your worst experience on set?

Natasha: I haven’t had a bad experience … actually I have I broken my elbow …

Me: …

Natasha: … it was pretty ironic, in the episode I was explaining how I had broken somebodies arm and I was giving a visual display swung my arm fast and crack … hit it on the wall

Me: Did they call the ambulance?

Natasha: Nah, I just carried on the scene, with my arm flopping (bursts out laughing again)

Me: Anything you want to say to fans of the show?

Natasha: I really appreciate the love and reception the show has had so far, so thank you! And keep watching

Me: Thank you

The new serious will be filmed in May 2013 and will be airing on BBC3 later this year.
