An American man has appeared at Highbury Corner Magistrates’ court after being accused of the sexual assault of a minor.
Chiwai Yung, 53, from New Jersey, allegedly inappropriately touched a 12-year-old girl in Camden High Street on 22 April 2018.
Yung, who pleaded not guilty, was seen by witnesses and the victims’ parents at around 4pm on the 22nd, reportedly pinching the young girl’s left breast and then grabbing it.
The court heard that Yung, who previously lived in Hong Kong, said that in the past he had sexually assaulted a minor – but then he told the court that it didn’t happen.

Yung arrived in the United Kingdom with his 87-year-old father on April 16, 2018 and was scheduled to leave yesterday. He has been living in the United States for 23 years after being unable to return to Hong Kong.
His defense requested bail as the defendant’s father, who is currently stuck at a hotel in London, is severely disabled. Yung’s father has diabetes and high blood pressure and was being cared for solely by his son, the court heard.
The request for bail was denied by the magistrate, who stated that Yung may flee the country and return to America if bail was granted. She also said that because it is unclear whether or not the defendant had previous offences in Hong Kong he may be a danger to children.
Yung remains in custody and will appear in the court on 15 June.
