Last week almost 5000 students flocked to Salou in Spain to be part of Saloufest. This event sees university sports teams from across the UK play their sport by day, and party by night.

The organisers, ILOVETOUR, say, “For over 15 years we have been providing students with our own special brand of ‘Essential Life Experience’. Our reputation upholds us for being the best in the business, and we are confident your trip with ILOVETOUR will be one of the best of your life.”
As part of the London Metropolitan University Cheerleading Team, I joined thousands of students in Salou last week for the sports festival. Every day we took part in cheerleading on the beach, along with around 150 others. The teams showcased their routines, practiced stunting and merged with other squads to create new routines and dances.
Captain of the LMU cheerleading team, Courtney Fonseca said, “Tour really is the highlight of the year. You get to meet other teams from across the country, and it’s the perfect way to let your hair down in the sun after a year of training twice a week and competing across the UK.”
At the end of the week there is an awards ceremony held at the nightclub, Pacha, to announce the teams who won at their respective sports throughout the week. The LMU cheerleaders won the title last year but didn’t place this year.
“Unfortunately the team has really struggled with injuries recently. One of our flyers fractured her ankle just days before tour,” Courtney said.
The LMU rugby team also put in a gallant effort but narrowly lost out on the title of Saloufest rugby champions to The University of South Wales – Newport.
24-year-old Tour rep and cheerleading coach, Emily Brown, describes the sports tour as an unforgettable experience. “I went every year when I was at uni, and after I graduated I couldn’t resist applying to work for ILOVETOUR. I just wasn’t ready to let go!” She helps run and organise the cheerleading at Saloufest. “Now every Easter I get to spend 3 weeks in the sun doing my favorite sport. I love it.”
ILOVETOUR celebrates their 15th year of sports festivals this year across Spain, Italy and Croatia.
