Thousands of participants decided to gather their energy to run the London marathon on Sunday 26th April 2015.
Thousands of people from all around the world; professional runners, members of the general public, famous and anonymous people decided to run and compete in the 26.2-mile course across London – after they helped to raise thousands of pounds for various charities.
Three Kenyan runners shared the podium at the end of the marathon; winner Eliud Kipchoge (in two hours, four minutes and 42 seconds), last year’s London Marathon winner Wilson Kipsang (in two hours, four minutes and 47 seconds), and Dennis Kimetto (in two hours, five minutes and 50 seconds).
A first time London marathon runner, Tigist Tufa, from Ethiopia finished in two hours, 23 minutes and 22 seconds and won the women’s race.
She was followed by the Kenyan Mary Keitany, who completed the course in two hours, 23 minutes and 40 seconds and closely after by Ethiopian runner, Tirfi Tsegaye (two hours, 23 minutes and 41 seconds)
However both of the men and women’s world marathon time records remain unchanged this year.
The Guinness World Records book has announced on social media that Guinness World Record titles for people finishing the race whilst wearing diverse costumes, were broken on Sunday 26th April.
Amongst many other world records, Paul Martelletti broke the ‘fastest marathon dressed as a superhero’ record in two hours, 30 minutes and 12 seconds in a Spiderman costume. Jerry Knox, a runner from Los Angeles, broke the ‘fastest marathon dribbling with two basketballs’ record in four hours, 10 minutes and 44 seconds while Subhashis Basu broke the ‘fastest marathon in a cricket uniform’ in three hours, 20 minutes and 46 seconds.
