The fashion industry is one of the largest polluters in the world, with its production processes contributing to greenhouse gas emissions, water pollution, and waste generation. Sustainable fashion is an approach to fashion that considers the environmental and social impact of clothing production.
As awareness of climate issues grows, sustainable fashion is getting more popular as people become more aware of the negative impact that fast fashion can have on the environment and on workers in the fashion industry.

Brands are creating new clothes from organic cotton, recycled polyester, or bamboo. One of the best and easy way to contribute towards sustainable fashion is shopping at thrift stores, and buying second-hand clothing.
Thrifting is extremely popular, and it is a great way to find unique and affordable clothing. Bohemia is a thrift store located in Hackney Wick with the purpose of satisfying the consumers with second-hand clothing. The store is run by Heena, who did not want to give her surname, along with her family.
Along with the store, Heena also works for different environmental initiatives run by charities. “Environmental sustainability has always been my top priority when it comes to shopping, and it’s the focus of my business, Bohemia. I would never have started a business that did not care about the environment,” said Heena.
“I believe in the urgency to fight for climate change, and I don’t want me and my customers to compromise when it comes to what we wear. The clothes we sell here are all second hand which are nicely laundered,” Heena added.

Emilia Smith, 24 is a regular customer at Bohemia. “I honestly love thrifting, and I always go around Shoreditch. Not only is it a more sustainable and eco-friendly way to shop, but it also allows for unique and affordable finds,” she said.
“The thrill of discovering a vintage piece or designer item for a fraction of the original price is unmatched,” Smith added.
In addition to being environmentally conscious and socially responsible, thrifting also encourages individuality in fashion. By shopping second-hand, one can create their own style without conforming to current trends. Overall, thrifting offers numerous benefits beyond just saving money. It promotes sustainability, supports local communities, and fosters creativity in personal style.
