The 67th Commission on the Status of Women has started, taking place 6-17 March. The Commission is looking for ways to bring forwards a future where women and girls are safe online, everyone has equal access to technology, and women get included in innovation and technology. These are goals that need to be achieved globally.

“The United Nations stands with women and girls everywhere,” said Antonio Guterres at the opening of the annual Commission on the Status of Women.

The fight for combating gender inequality has been a long-standing issue. At the apogee of digital evolution, the divide in gender representation is resurfacing.

“The digital divide has become the new face of gender inequality, which has become compounded by the pushback against women and girls, that we see in the world today,” said Sima Bahous, UN Women chief, during the opening of CSW67.

Introspect into the life of a talented woman

“Women’s Day means collaboration and women empowering women,” said Cally Borg, 37, a creative commercial session stylist and multi award-winning hairstylist in London.

Cally started working in the industry early at 14 years old, being passionate about hair ever since she was little. She said that her driving force in life is her family, especially her daughter.

She is also a freelancer educator, inspiring fellow hairstylists to ‘Boss it with Balance’. “Flexibility and freedom lifestyle business empowers me as it’s proof you can be a mum and be successful,” said Cally.

There are millions of women like Cally that are successful entrepreneurs and have found their work-life balance, especially as mothers.

A study from Kennesaw State University has found that women have more entrepreneurial success due to their creative and logical decision making. Women tend to get less investment in their businesses due to their gender as opposed to their ideas.
