When you think of Camden Town you instantly think of an eclectic style which celebrates alternative looks and subcultures since the early 1970s. Around each corner there’s a nod to style and beauty icons, including Amy Winehouse, and you can almost certainly find someone with just as eye-catching hair and makeup nearby.

We’ve hit Camden Market to find the best hair and makeup looks to inspire you this springtime.

Julian Sims, 22, part-time Sales Assistant in Camden

Julian has mixed up his hairstyle over time but has chosen to rock a fringe and fade at the sides. He’s low maintenance and uses his barber’s own brand pomade to give some texture to his hair. Even though he was worried his most recent cut left his fringe a little wonky, we still think it looks great!

Laura Gething, Head of Additional Learning Behaviour Support, 35

The first thing we spotted was Laura’s vibrant purple hair – we loved her bold colour and soft curls. Makeup-wise her favourite products include Fenty Beauty Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Foundation, £27, and their Flyliner Longwear Liquid Eyeliner, £17. Laura said: “I can rub my eyes all I want and my eyeliner won’t come off!”

Lana, Cocker Spaniel, Market Assistant, 8

Lana comes to work with her owner, a jewellery market stall proprietor, every day. She loves to wear her hair in a high ponytail to tame her curly locks. One of the market’s youngest assistants, Lana is also one of the cheapest – she’ll happily work for food and playtime with the customers.

Ana Alvem, student at secondary school, 18

Camden Town MAC store

Natural beauty is where Ana sees her personal makeup look. She goes to the MAC store in Camden Town to buy MAC Face and Body Foundation, £26, and lets her hair dry naturally for a slight flick at the ends. Statement pieces like big hoop earrings are how she pulls her whole look together for a young, edgy finish.

Brigitte Louisgrand, retired tourist from France, 72

Bringing some French glamour to the streets of North London is tourist Brigitte. Her tactful pops of red instantly caught our attention and she looked impossibly chic. With red being her favourite colour she keeps her hair freshly dyed, and uses French pharmacy brands including Lancome and YSL for her statement red lipsticks.
